Energy Performance Certificates Compliance
In January 2020, the Minister of Mineral Resources and Energy introduced a draft regulation titled the Mandatory Display and Submission of Energy Performance Certificates for Buildings (referred to as the Regulation), under section 19(1)(1) of the National Energy Act No. 34 of 1998.
The Regulation was officially published in the Government Gazette on 3 August 2023, mandating that all registered owners of non-residential buildings must prominently display an “energy performance certificate” by 7 December 2025.
Private owned buildings with a net floor area of 2,000 square meters are required to comply with this deadline.
